CJC module for thermocouples saves board space

TT electronics BI Technologies has launched a cold junction compensation (CJC) module for thermocouples. Designated 143-131A, the CJC module features a hybrid SIP configuration to minimize board space.

The CJC module is available in a standard three-terminal package and uses an active semiconductor that enhances the accuracy of temperature measurements when used with standard thermocouples. The module is compatible with most DAQ manufacturers' mounting boards and terminal blocks.

"The CJC Module achieves accurate compensation by using laser-trimming and an environmentally stable, robust construction that includes a ceramic base and hybrid technology," said Mike Ochoa-Hougan, product manager, BI Technologies' electronic components division. "This module improves the accuracy of temperatures measured with thermocouples, including power electronics such as heat sinks and electric motors."

The 143-131A module features an output voltage slope of -2.5mV/C and an accuracy of 1.25C within the operating temperature range of -40C to 85C. This compact device is priced at $3 each in volume, with lead times from stock to 8 weeks. In order to meet customer requirements, BI Technologies also plans to produce devices outside these specifications.
