Mistral Software has put together a software-based WLAN product that will help engineers designing portable wireless devices based on Texas Instruments' DM644x series DaVinci processors accelerate product development.

Bundled solution
Mistral Software for DaVinci bundles the WLAN6101EB WLAN module from SyChip Inc., a subsidiary of Murata based in the U.S., with WLAN and SDIO software drivers available on Linux or Windows Embedded CE platforms.

DaVinci technology from TI is an SoC based on its TMS320C64x DSPs.

Wireless applications for Mistral's WLAN software include smart phones, PDAs, gaming devices, medical devices, VoIP, security cameras, video conferencing and network projectors.

According to Samyeer Metrani, VP for product development at Mistral, this product is the first WLAN solution for DaVinci. "This solution helps DaVinci-based product developers get a head-start on the development of their next-generation wireless-enabled devices."

The host interface for SyChip's WLAN module is provided through the 4bit SDIO slot on TI's DaVinci DVEVM.

Tool support
Mistral's WLAN software package for DaVinci also consists of an evaluation kit for SDIO (WLAN6101SD-EVK) from Murata, enabling designers to begin development on TI's digital video evaluation module (DVEVM). It also includes WLAN 6101EB modules from Murata to help customers implement their wireless application on their hardware.
