UXGA camera module has macro function option

SMK Corp. has announced the development of small and low-profile UXGA (2Mpixel) camera modules that offer with or without macro function options. These are the latest additions to the company's line of streamlined camera modules.

Recent requirements for camera modules have been going towards thinner configurations to keep mobile phone designs smaller. Moreover, diversified picture-taking scenes require a macro function to enable near-distance shooting. SMK's new UXGA camera module and the version with the macro function address these requirements.

These 4.5mm size of the modules, said to be the best level for 8mm? UXGA, was made possible by the optimization of their optical system. These devices also enable picture-taking under low light conditions.

Samples will be available this month at $42.58. Production quantities will be available in June 2007.
