Qimonda to set up DRAM module fab in Malaysia

Extending its back-end capabilities, Qimonda AG will build a new DRAM module manufacturing facility in Johor, Malaysia. The new facility will require an investment of up to $197 million over the next five years.

"The new DRAM module facility is a key element of our efforts to optimize our supply chain," said Kin Wah Loh, president and CEO, Qimonda. "It will provide us with a higher flexibility and efficiency in our back-end manufacturing."

The facility will have a production area of around 25,000m?. It will be located close to Qimonda's global distribution center in Singapore to help cut delivery times.

Construction of the plant will start by mid-year, while production will ramp-up in 2008. The new manufacturing site will have up to 3,000 employees.
