Getting and staying in business, especially in the semiconductor industry, requires compliance to standards as this can define profit or loss for companies. This month, China starts its implementation of the RoHS directive. And while some vendors see this as a challenge, other companies complying with the standard this early say that it is an opportunity to make greater inroads in the market.

For Germany-based switch vendor knitter-switch, the RoHs implementation will boost the company's capability to increase its market share in the country.

According to Lin Hao from the knitter-switch Shenzhen Office, the implementation will shorten the price gap between European switch vendors and local suppliers.

Since compliance to the directive will increase the production costs of China's switch manufacturers, it will even out the price advantages between local and European vendors. Lin added that they see a good future for their products in the China market.

knitter-switch is exhibiting different types of switches at the 12th International IC China Conference and Exhibition (IIC-China). The company's product portfolio includes toggle switches, pushbutton switches, slide switches, dual-in-line switches and rotary coded switches, targeted at consumer electronics, home appliances, automotive electronics, industrial automation, telecommunications and health care products.
