Seiko Epson Corp. released a USB2.0 sample driver for Windows Embedded CE 6.0 designed for use with the high-speed USB2.0-compatible Epson S1R72V17 USB controller LSI.

According to the company, the sample driver can be connected to a mouse, keyboard, hub and storage equipment in order to effortlessly set up a development environment on a CEPC device, eliminating the need to establish a specialized development platform environment.

The driver also comes equipped with a test mode function which is essential during the product commercialization phase for USB authentication testing. The USB2.0 host supports hi-speed (480Mbps), full-speed (12Mbps) and low-speed (1.5Mbps) transfer rates. Epson also offers a sample driver for Windows Embedded CE 5.0 as part of its regular product lineup.

Eugene Saburi, managing executive officer, general manager, business and marketing, Microsoft Corp., commented, "This sample driver's compatibility with Windows Embedded CE 6.0 will make it possible for users to take advantage of CE 6.0's new functions using a variety of equipment such as the PC peripherals and consumer products that are becoming increasingly compact these days."

Epson said it will continue to expand its lineup of USB 2.0 high-speed controller products. The company also plans to increase its selection of sample drivers compatible with a wide variety of OS to support customers in their development activities.
