Entropic Communication, a privately held semiconductor company that provides chipsets and the associated software that enable home networking of digital entertainment, recently announced its new office in Hong Kong.

The new office, to be located in New Territories, is being headed by Fred Leung, managing director for Asia Pacific.

According to Entropic, they established the new China office in response to the increased demand for their c.LINK chipset. "This new office is staffed by engineer and technical support professionals, with additional sales and office management employees being added. It will provide regional sales, and customer and technical support" said Michael Economy, VP of worldwide sales for Entropic.

The c.LINK technology allows consumers to turn their existing coaxial cable infrastructure into a 270Mbps digital entertainment networking backbone to "easily share" digital entertainment content such as video (SDTV and HDTV), music, games and images. c.LINK chipsets can be used in various consumer electronics devices, including STBs, digital video recorders, broadband home routers and media gateways.

Coaxial alliance
Entropic is a founding member of the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA), formed to standardize technologies for linking consumer entertainment devices such as TVs, digital STBs, digital video recorders, DVDs, CD/MP3 players and PCs seamlessly throughout the home using existing coaxial cabling. Other members of the alliance include Cisco Systems, Comcast, Cox Communications, EchoStar, Matsushita Electric (Panasonic), Motorola, RadioShack Corp., Toshiba and Verizon.
