Zener, Schottky diodes from Rohm

Rohm has announced the development of a smaller and thinner Zener barrier and Schottky diode package, addressing the trend towards more compact mobile phones and digital cameras.

Before this release, the smallest Schottky barrier and Zener diodes available were in the 1006 (0402) size. Rohm's new GMD2 uses the company's proprietary chip device structure and ultraprecise machining technology to reduce the size and thickness of the package to 0.6-by-0.3mm, while maintaining the standard electrical characteristics.

The new package is 67 percent smaller in area and 20 percent thinner than 1006 (0402) but with the same power as 1006 (0402) and 1406 (0502) package sizes at 100mW.

Sample shipments start this month. Sample price is 85 cents. Monthly production begins June 2007 at 10 million units per month.
