JSS series slide switches from SMK

SMK has announced the development and sample shipment of the JSS series slide switch (one-side sliding type).

The company said this device meets the market demand for downsized components that offer reliability and can handle more functions for use in smaller and thinner portable systems such as mobile phones and audio devices.

By arranging the spring horizontally rather than vertically, this switch has become the industry's shortest slide switch at 1.55mm, the company said. Offering both sliding and momentary spring-back functions, the switch requires less space to carry out operations such as mode switching and holding. The switch also claims the industry's longest operational life at of 100,000 cycles (momentary action) and 50,000 cycles (sliding action), a result of its optimized dimensions and spring arrangement.

The device is rated at 0.1A, 5Vdc and 1.4N operation force for momentary operation and 1.6N for sliding operation. It has external dimensions of 11.4-by-3.5-by-1.55mm.

Sample shipment begins this month with production expected to start in June 2007. Sample price is $1.69 per unit.
