Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX13487E/MAX13488E half-duplex RS-485 transceivers featuring AutoDirection, which automatically enables the driver when transmitting data. This feature eliminates the driver-enable control signal, thus saving space and reducing component count in isolated metering, automotive and industrial applications.
The MAX13487E offers 15kV ESD protection using the IEC 61000-4-2 air gap discharge method, and both transceivers provide 15kV ESD protection using the human body model. The MAX13487E's slew-rate-limited drivers provide reduced EMI and operation in environments with high levels of radiated noise for error-free transmission up to 500Kbps. The MAX13488E allows data rates up to 16Mbps. Additionally, these devices feature a 1/4-unit load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 128 transceivers on the bus.
The MAX13487E/MAX13488E operates over the extended -40C to 85C temperature range and are available in an industry-standard, 8-pin SO package. Pricing starts at $1.25 (1,000-up, FOB USA).
