Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) filed a lawsuit in a Texas federal court against Taiwan's Acer Inc. regarding patent infringement case related to PC technology, according to a Reuters report.

The lawsuit seeks to prevent Acer from selling some products in the United States, including desktops, notebooks, media centers and related products, due to the alleged use of HP-patented technology.

The five U.S. patents included in the lawsuit were issued between 1997 and 2003, according to the report. The patents relate to optical data storage, circuits and methods for lowering computer system power consumption, multiple processors in computer systems and an improved method for attaching devices to a digital serial bus.

In the report, HP said that it "is taking necessary action to protect its intellectual property against unauthorized use."

A representative for Acer America, the company's U.S. subsidiary, could not immediately be reached for comment as of press time.
