Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd has successfully completed two trials of its end-to-end mobile WiMAX solution for Reinan Cable Network Co. Ltd (RCN) and Beam Planning Corp. in Japan. The trials were carried out in cooperation with Fujikura, a manufacturer of power and communication cables.

The trials are part of u-JAPAN Plan, a Japanese government initiative to realize seamless broadband coverage throughout Japan by 2010. Japanese cable operators, such as RCN, selected WiMAX technology for its large coverage footprint and high capacity, which will also help solve the broadband access problem in the regions with low broadband coverage. The Huawei WiMAX solution uses leading technologies, such as multiple-input multiple-output and orthogonal frequency division multiple access, to ensure higher flux and comprehensive coverage in those regions.

Cai Liqun, president of Huawei's WiMAX product line, said "We have confidence in the huge potential of WiMAX, and we expect to bring Japanese subscribers advanced broadband service through cooperation with CATV operators."

Last July, Huawei was also selected to deploy Japan's first-ever All-IP based HSDPA network for eMobile.
