Keywords:NAND flash? solid-state storage? NAND controller technology?

Silicon Storage Technology Inc. (SST) expanded its NANDrive solid-state storage product line with devices that range in capacities from 1Gbyte to 8Gbytes.

The mini NANDrives feature the following storage capacities1Gbyte (SST85LD1001M), 2Gbytes (SST85LD1002M), 4Gbytes (SST85LD1004M) and 8Gbytes (SST85LD1008M).

Common ball layout
The mini NANDrives measure 12-by-24-by-1.4mm, and have the same common ball layout as the previously announced micro NANDrive products that are available in densities ranging from 128-512Mbytes.

By leveraging SST's NAND controller technology, multichip packaging techniques and an industry standard ATA/IDE interface, the NANDrive family manages all NAND flash complexities and allows designers to quickly integrate the NANDrive into their designs without having to make any firmware changes.

In addition, because NANDrive uses a standard embedded OS software stack, embedded system designers no longer face the risk of host software revalidation cycles, according to SST.

NANDrives offers sustained read and write rates up to 30MBps. Applications include mobile multimedia devices, such as MP3 players, video streaming devices, camcorders, cameras and GPS navigation systems.

Unique serial ID
SST's NANDrive offers a unique 20byte serial ID number for data encryption as well as up to four protection zones that customers can use to store boot code. Additional security features include a write-protect pin for virus prevention, password protection and a purge command.

The 1Gbyte, 2Gbyte and 4Gbyte mini NANDrive devices are currently sampling with full production expected in the third quarter of 2007. The 8Gbyte device will be available for sampling in the second half. Pricing starts at $25.50 in 10,000-unit quantities.
