Unshrouded header connectors from ERNI

ERNI Electronics released a portfolio of connectors from its unshrouded header system series (STL family), available in single- or double-row versions in different connection lengths, termination types and in right-angle versions. The male multipoint connectors are based on the widely used 0.635-by-0.635mm pin standard and can be combined with a variety of other products that comply with these specifications.

The company developed these easy-to-use solutions to enable efficient and sturdy board-to-board connections suited for mezzanine circuit boards, which require unshrouded headers with a 2.54mm pitch and stamped press-fit zones on both sides. This feature eliminates the need for a cable connection or an indirect connector link.

The connection can also simultaneously handle mechanical strain when an appropriate number of contacts are employed. According to the company, the connection is permanent, robust, vibration-resistant and insensitive to dirt and grime.

For deployment in extremely harsh environments, it is possible to pot the connector, including the press-fit zones. The unshrouded headers can also be processed flexibly and economically. In addition, different pin lengths make it possible to achieve the required distances between PCBs and additional insulating bodies stabilize the pin headers when greater distances are required.

Single-row unshrouded headers are available with pin counts of 50 or as press-fit versions with up to 36 pins. Double-row unshrouded headers are available with up to 100 pins or as press-fit versions with up to 72 pins. The STL connectors are available immediately and pricing starts at between 15 and 30 cents each for a 10-pole STL.
