South Korea's KT Corp. has expanded its wireless broadband (WiBro) coverage in all areas of Seoul, including subway lines, according to a report from the Korea Herald.

WiBro is South Korea's WiMAX-compatible mobile Internet platform. It delivers speeds of 1-3Mbps and mobility of up to 120kph. In June 2006, WiBro got off the ground at some high-demand areas in Seoul and the city's outskirts, including Sinchon, Gangnam-gu, Seocho-gu, Songpa-gu, Bundang and along the Bundang subway line.

Last week, a demonstration vehicle for the service was running around the Cheonggye Stream in Seoul. Four seats in the vehicle were equipped with WiBro-compatible laptops to allow users experience the so-called 'ubiquitous Seoul'.

To further promote the service, 25 college students will upload user-created content, specifically videos, regarding the use of the service on some of the homepages operated by the Seoul Metropolitan City.

KT shared plans to introduce more WiBro devices this June, including smartphones, laptops, PMPs and compatible USBs. Smartphones will support a digital multimedia broadcasting mobile TV platform, aside from the intrinsic mobile communications function.
