PCIe card-edge connectors feature SMT retention clips

Keywords:PCIe card-edge connector? SMT retention clips? PCIe connectors?

FCI has expanded its PCIe card-edge connector portfolio with the addition of vertical connectors for SMT termination. The connectors provide 36, 64, 98 or 164 contacts to support x1, x4, x8 or x16 high-speed serial PCIe lanes.

The SMT connector versions feature 0.1mm lead coplanarity and SMT retention clips at both connector ends to provide additional mechanical strength after soldering. Non-protrusive orientation posts are also available. Tray or tape-and-reel packaging options for compatibility with conventional SMT board assembly processes are available.

The PCIe card-edge connectors are designed to accept a 1.58mm thick add-in card. A molded polarization key on the connector and corresponding notch on the add-in card prevent improper insertion. Sequential mating for hot plug capability is accomplished by staggering the appropriate edge fingers by 1mm on the add-in card. These connectors may be used in embedded or industrial applications as well as server rise cards.

FCI also offers PCIe card-edge connectors for through-hole solder, press-fit or straddle-mount termination with x1, x4, x8 or x16 PCIe lanes and can provide 200-, 230- and 280-position connectors to support riser card applications.

Typical pricing ranges from 0.02 cents to 0.04 cents per contact for 2,000-unit quantities, depending on connector configuration and packaging. Samples are available with production lead times from stock to six weeks.
