Micro-USB connectors from Molex

Molex introduced its latest Micro-USB connectors that enable design flexibility and compactness in portable mobile devices.

Compared to the mini-USB, the low-profile Micro-USB connectors offer a compact footprint and a volumetric space reduction of more than 50 percent, the company said, enabling the development of smaller and sleeker mobile devices such as PDAs, digital cameras and mobile phones. These connectors are compliant with the Micro-USB 1.0 specifications and support the current USB OTG supplement, giving users the convenience of mobile point-to-point connectivity.

The connectors are available as standard and mid-mount "B" receptacles, with lead-in features for blind mate capability. These receptacles have wide side solder tabs for secure PCB retention and top grounding fingers for mating assurance. The connectors feature a laser-welded shield design, ensuring mechanical seam strength and rigidity of the connector body. To prevent mis-mating with A-type plugs, the receptacles have a beveled B-style profile.

These connectors are available starting this month. To complement the receptacles, the company plans to develop a low-profile plug.
