Keywords:optical subassembly? TOSA/ROSA? HD video audio formats?

Omron Electronic Components has introduced the P1TX4C-SX51 transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA) and the P1RX4C-SX51 receiver optical subassembly (ROSA) to serve the high-definition (HD) video market. The SX51 TOSA/ROSA pair is suitable for addressing the long-distance data transfer challenges inherent in the bandwidth-intensive, high-speed data applications associated with HDMI rev1.3 compliant HD video and audio formats.

HDMI rev1.3 specifications allow for advanced deep-color support, which uses up to 16 bits per pixel, effectively providing a spectrum of colors ranging in the billions of shades, as well as for true lossless audio playback through Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio formats. In addition, the incorporation of bi-directional channels provides a level of control to the SX family of OSAs. This aspect of flexibility positions the SX51 as an alternative for solutions in applications including broadcast, in-flight entertainment or any video/data application where bi-directional communication along a common optical fiber is desirable.

Packed in 10.8-by-15.7-by-7.9mm, the AfterburnerT SX51 family of products is a CWDM-based OSA using four channels, which provide a transmission/receiving bit rate of up to 3.5Gbps per channel, with an additional two channels for low-speed, bi-directional applications.
