SMK Corp. has developed a type A vertical Hi-Speed USB connector with a low-profile receptacle.
With the company's proprietary terminal and housing design enabling only a 10.5mm protrusion above the PWB surface when mounted, the connector's profile is 36 percent shorter than its predecessor. It features a four-pole design, two each for power and signals, and is resistant to flux creep-up when soldering. It uses straight DIP type mounting on PWBs and offers DIP terminal lengths of 2.8mm and 3.8mm.
A maximum speed of 480Mbps makes this USB 2.0-compatible device suitable for projectors and PC peripheral equipment such as scanners. Its low profile makes it usable in applications with limited height.
This RoHS-compliant device is available for 84 cents each. SMK is able to produce 300,000 units per month.
