Samsung Electronics Co. plans to test run South Korea's homegrown high-speed wireless Internet technology, wireless broadband (WiBro), next month in a U.S. military camp, according to a report from

Under the signed agreement with U.S. Army's Communications Electronics Research and Development Engineering Center, the company said it will launch the test operation of WiBro in an army research center complex in New Jersey for four months.

The WiBro trial is expected to help the Korean firm determine whether the technology could be applied to the U.S. military's communications system, Samsung officials said. The company also signed a deal last month with Sprint Nextel Corp. to provide WiBro-related equipment in five major cities in the U.S.

Developed by local firms in South Korea, including Samsung, the WiBro technology is claimed to allow the fastest data transfer speed among existing mobile technologies.
