Cantata Technology Inc. is updating its 1010 appliance, offering new features for both the IMG 1010 media gateway and the MSP 1010 multiservices platform.

The IMG 1010 supports Electronic Number Mapping, which enables it to translate traditional phone numbers into Session Initiation Protocol addresses, allowing SIP clients to call one another without an intervening PSTN service. The 1010 now offers direct interfaces to enterprise load-balancer products, so that SIP voice traffic can be smoothed and distributed in an IP infrastructure.

Peter Vescuso, VP of marketing at Cantata, said the system is expanding its transitional role as a precursor to a full-fledged Internet Protocol multimedia subsystem. The IMG 1010 now supports any-to-any signaling between ISDN, Signaling System 7 and Channel Associated Signaling.

The multiservices version also includes the Sigtran M3UA protocol for hybrid IP/SS7 networks. And it has expanded its SIP support, including subscribe/notify, call hold and session timer.
