FPGAs for DSP & Communication module from iSLI

The Institute for System Level Integration (iSLI) announced that its "FPGAs for DSP & Communication" module is using the Xilinx FPGA development board called the XUP Virtexllpro and the Xilinx ISE software and SystemGenerator, which runs on Mathworks Simulink for its practical part of the course.

Part of the iSLI's modular MSc in System Level Integration postgraduate degree, the module has a large practical content and covers the use of FPGAs for DSP algorithms, applications architectures and hardware-software system partitioning. The module's emphasis is on communications, given the widespread use of FPGAs and the variety of problems to be solved.

The Xilinx XUP Virtex II Pro Development Systems boards have Virtex-II Pro FPGA, specifically the XC2VP30. This has two PowerPC processors and more than 30,000 logic cells as well as eight dedicated multi-gigabit per second transceivers, for use in high speed communications such as 10Gbyte fibre channel and gigabit Ethernet.

The MSc in System Level Integration has been designed in collaboration with industry specifically for electronic engineering, computer science and physics graduates and for engineers working in leading edge hardware and software domains to understand the process of SoC design, the use of IP blocks and the architecture of modern electronic systems.
