ExpressCard remote control from SMK

SMK Corp. has announced the development of a 23-key card-size remote control that can be stored in an ExpressCard slot. The ExpressCard facility is expected to be widely adopted on notebook-sized computers in the near future.

In recent years, PC use has expanded to cover TV or DVD viewing or playing music, and demand for remote controls for these functions has increased. Since notebook PCs are mobile, remote controls for them have to be portable and durable. SMK's ExpressCard remote control being discussed here is to meet such market demand.

This RoHS-compliant device measures 54-by-75-by-4.85mm and operates from a supply voltage of 3Vdc.

Device samples are currently available with production due in June 2007. Pricing is at $16.74 per unit. The company will be able to product 500,000 units monthly starting July 2007.
