Markitecture: Chances of consumers buying iPhone very slim

A recent survey by market research firm Markitecture found that iPhone scored a high percentage in consumer awareness but the chances of these consumers buying the product is very slim.

According to a poll of 1,300 cellphone users, 77 percent said they were familiar with the iPhone. Of that figure, 41 percent rated it as excellent or very good based on what they have seen or heard, while 21 percent regarded the upcoming Apple product as fair or poor.

However, despite the hype and the strong impression of those familiar with the iPhone, the survey found that only 6 percent of the respondents are willing to buy the product come June and 89 percent said there was a 50/50 chance that they will purchase the phone.

The $500 price point was the top reason for not purchasing the phone. Seventy-seven percent of the respondents said the product was too expensive for them to switch. The issue with the carrier service ranked second. Apple has a six-month exclusive contract with AT&T, who'll be the sole carrier of the iPhone. Non-AT&T customers stated that they have no plans to switch from their current carrier, which translates to their limited interest in purchasing the phone.
