Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX3580 fully integrated, zero-IF (ZIF), direct-conversion TV tuner for DVB-T applications.

By using unique ZIF architecture and integrating an RF-tracking filter, this tuner eliminates external, discrete filtering components and the expensive SAW filter required by older, IF-based tuners, the company said, thus enabling the industry's lowest BOM. Operating from a single 3.3V supply and consuming a low 650mW of power, the MAX3580 is suitable for USB stick, automotive and infotainment applications.

The MAX3580 is available in a 5-by-5mm, 32-pin TQFN package with an exposed paddle. It is fully specified to operate over the -40C to 85C extended temperature range. Prices start at $5.50 (1,000-up, FOB USA).

An evaluation kit and reference designs that combine the MAX3580 with OFDM demodulators are available to speed designs.
