Michael S. Sutton Ltd has filed a complaint against Nokia regarding infringement of a patented data-packaging technology for messaging applications, according to a Reuters report.

The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on April 30 by Sutton, which is also seeking damages from the cellphone maker with regard to the complaint.

In the report, Nokia said it would defend its rights in the case. Says a Nokia spokeswoman, "This case was previously filed vs. Nokia and then voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff. We will analyze the details of the new case which was filed on April 30 and actively defend the rights of Nokia."

Several patent suits have been filed against the Finnish handset manufacturer early this year, the bulk of which petitioned by Qualcomm.
