Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX9814 microphone amplifier with integrated AGC and low-noise microphone bias. The integrated AGC circuitry allows the designer to define hold-and-release times, as well as the output threshold level, for different audio applications.

Optimizing the signal level prior to digital signal processing ensures a low-noise signal that does not require further gain or attenuation, said Maxim. This high-quality audio signal can be converted and processed in the digital domain without further losses, thereby preserving the quality of the original audio.

To further enhance audio performance, the MAX9814 integrates a low-noise preamplifier, variable gain amplifier (VGA), output amplifier and an internal low-noise microphone-bias-voltage generator that is capable of driving most electric condenser microphones. This device is suitable for digital cameras, portable recorders, Bluetooth and wired headsets, VoIP phones and conference phones.

Fully specified over the -40C to 85C extended temperature range, the MAX9814 is available in 1.5-by-2mm,12-bump UCSP and 3-by-3mm, 14-pin TDFN packages. An evaluation kit is available to speed design implementation.

Prices start at 59 cents (10,000-up, FOB USA).
