Vishay's Schottky MicroSMP rectifiers, MicroSMP TVS

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has launched a new MicroSMP miniature package type for Schottky rectifiers and transient voltage suppressors (TVS) that provides high-current power density and low thermal resistance for space savings and improved reliability.

With a low 0.65mm height and 2.5-by-1.3mm footprint, the Schottky MicroSMP rectifiers offer secondary rectification and freewheeling diode functions for miniature ADCs and DC/DC converters. It also features flywheel and polarity protection for miniature power converters and portable electronic equipment such as digital cameras, MP3 players, navigation systems, GPS and cellphones. Moreover, the device enables polarity protection of power lines and signal lines for automotive and industrial systems.

The MicroSMP TVS devices are optimized for power and signal line protection for microprocessors, signal processing ICs and logic circuits, and high-power voltage regulation for non-sensitive input voltage circuits in automotive and industrial electronics. The devices improve on all previous TVS products in similar package types by combining ESD transient protection with a superior surge clamping capability.

Featuring a low forward voltage drop, the six newly released Schottky rectifiers are rated up to 1A at a 110C lead temperature, while the two new voltage suppressors feature a peak pulse current of 100W at a 10/1000?s waveform. All the devices offer a high 25A forward surge current capability for an 8.3ms pulse. Low junction-to-lead thermal resistance of 30C/W for the Schottky rectifiers and 20C/W for the TVS devices provides improved reliability and a longer operational life span.

The devices' single-chip, SMT MicroSMP package features solder pads that are compatible with other SMD devices, so no modification is needed to the PCB layout when they are used as higher-performing upgrades to existing devices.

Samples and production quantities of the new Schottky and TVS devices in the MicroSMP package are available now with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
