TI takes single-chip cellphone offerings to 65nm

Seeking to stay one step ahead of Infineon Technologies AG and others, Texas Instruments Inc. here outlined its single-chip cellphone road map, tipping a new 65nm product line.

For some time, TI has been shipping LoCosto, a single-chip cellphone product, based on a 90nm process. The GSM product is aimed for the exploding ultralow-cost mobile phone market.

The company is developing a 65nm version of LoCosto. The product is in the fab, with shipments due ''very shortly,'' according to the company.

Another version, eCosto, is sampling this quarter. The first product in the new eCosto platform will be the OMAPV1035 single-chip solution, which will be manufactured in a 65nm process and will support GSM, GPRS and EDGE standards.

TI's competitor in the arena is Infineon and other rivals.
