Fujitsu Ltd has developed a new series of 2.5-inch HDDs with a storage capacity of 250Gbyte in a slim 9.5mm-thin profile, claimed to be among the industry's highest capacity HDDs in its class. The MHY2 BH series is designed for use in notebook PCs, compact desktop PCs and consumer electronics.

As notebook PCs and CE apps grow more powerful and feature-rich, the volume of data that they are required to handle also rapidly increases. This also fuels the demand for slim, high-capacity HDDs. Fujitsu claims that its new series of HDDs meets this demand and, through perpendicular magnetic recording, delivers 250Gbyte of storage capacity in a slender 9.5mm-thin form factor.

Featuring an idle acoustic noise level of 2.4bels, and low power consumption, operating at 1.9W or less when reading or writing data, the MHY2 BH series is said to be also among the best-in-class in terms of noise and energy efficiency. The MHY2 BH series is also RoHS compliant.

Sales of the new MHY2 BH series will begin during Q2 '07, targeting global markets for consumer electronics products and notebook PCs.
