ESD/EMI protection ICs optimized for 800MHz to 2.7GHz

Semtech Corp. has expanded its EMIClamp protection family with the introduction of the EClamp239xP. The EClamp239xP is a series of inductor-capacitor (L-C) protection devices featuring greater attenuation, steeper amplitude roll-off and lower clamping voltage needed for high-performance color LCD interfaces in GSM and CDMA-based 3G handsets.

The EClamp239xP series includes the four-line EClamp2394P, the six-line EClamp2396P and the eight-line EClamp2398P. The EClamp239xP's 5-pole L-C filter network provides inductor values of 19nH and capacitor values of 12pF, enabling the devices to offer minimal attenuation in the passband and 30dB minimum attenuation from 800MHz to 2.7GHz, which is suitable for 3G mobile phones.

Each device in this series comprises TVS diodes for ESD protection and an L-C network for EMI and RF interference filtering. The devices offer ESD protection to IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 (15kV air; 8kV contact).

The EClamp239xP devices are available in the RoHS and WEEE compliant Semtech Leadless Package (SLP), which offers the same small, low-profile design as "flip chip" alternatives, but with increased manufacturing durability, said Semtech. The EClamp239xP packages are narrow (1.6mm) and low profile (0.58mm) with a variable length depending on the number of lines supported. In addition, the flow-through design of the devices is said to alleviate the need for signal routing for a faster and more convenient layout and the large ground pad minimizes parasitic inductance for improved ESD and filter characteristics.

The EClamp2394P is priced at 46 cents each, the EClamp2396P is priced at 60 cents each and the EClamp2398P is priced at 72 cents each, all in 1,000-piece lots. All devices are available now in production quantities.
