The E.U.-funded Biotex (Bio-sensing textile for health management) project is developing optimal electric, electrochemical and optical sensors that will be embedded into a textile substrate to assess people's health.

A consortium of eight partners from four countries said the goal of the Biotex project is to allow the monitoring of body fluids via sensors distributed on a textile substrate and performing biochemical measurements. Biotex is addressing the sensing part and its electrical or optical connection to a signal processor.

All parties said their approach consists in developing basic technology modules and ad-hoc electronic control and analysis modules for biochemical sensing compatible with integration into sensing textile.
