Memory card bus chips support various flash formats

O2Micro International Ltd introduces its four-in-one MemoryCardBus ICs OZ711M1/OZ711M2/OZ711M3) that offer smart card reader and PC card technology.

The parts are designed by extending O2Micro's EMV Level 1 certified SmartCardBus architecture. Aside from smart card support, this technology enables a single passive adapter to support the four commonly used small form factor flash media formats. The chips are compliant with SmartMedia Standard 2000 (Millennium), MultiMediaCard ver. 2.2 and Memory Stick standard formats and all support SD Memory Card CPRM security mode.

All chips feature a patent-pending MCU-free architecture and support all voltages and memory capacities of media, said the company. They offer an advanced ACPI power management architecture with auxiliary supply for S3 power consumption and a PnP operating mode with patented SmartCardSensing card detection technology. Moreover, the chips are compatible with ISO 7816 asynchronous and synchronous Smart Cards and support PC/SC, Open Card and CT-API (B1).

OZ711M1 features a single-slot SmartCardBus controller with optional dedicated reader interface. The part is pin-compatible with OZ6912, OZ711E0 and OZ711EC1 and comes in 144-pin LQFP and mini-BGA packages.

The OZ711M2 model has a dual-slot SmartCardBus controller and is pin compatible with OZ6933 and OZ711E1 chips. It is available in 208-pin LQFP and 209 ball mini-BGA packages.

The OZ711M3 model features a dual-slot SmartCardBus controller with optional dedicated reader interface. The part is pin-compatible with OZ711E2, plus 209 ball versions of OZ6933, OZ711E1 and OZ711M2. The device is housed in a 225-pin ball mini-BGA package.
