Renesas' RJP4004ANS IGBT designed for electronic flash

Renesas Technology Corp. introduces the RJP4004ANS, an IGBT designed for electronic flash (strobe) control in cameras built into cellphone and digital still cameras.

At 2.5V low-voltage drive, the chip has a rated current of 200A. RJP4004ANS can control a 200A current using a low drive voltage of 2.5V, so no dedicated 5V power supply is needed for the IGBT, thus increasing efficiency and enabling further compactness.

Moreover, the 200A rated current of the RJP4004ANS is 30 percent higher than the 150 A rated current of its predecessor, RJP4002ANS. This makes it possible to realize more compact electronic flash units, said Renesas.

RJP4004ANS employs a VSON-8 (Very thin Small-Outline No-lead 8-pin package, Renesas package code) package. The VSON-8 package is the smallest in the industry, measuring only 3-by-4.8-by-0.95mm. The VSON-8 package used for the RJP4004ANS employs no high-melting-point solder, which has a lead content of 85 percent or greater. Pb-free solder is used internally and an optimized silver paste material is employed to ensure reliability and conductivity. A high degree of reliability is maintained while achieving a completely lead-free design. Like its predecessor, the RJP4004ANS offers high reliability and is Pb-free, including the internal solder, said Renesas.

Sample shipments will begin in June in Japan. Pricing starts at 65 cents each for volume quantities.
