Address challenges in DVB-H receiver design
Keywords:mobile TV? DVB-H standard? Digital Video Broadcasting? Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting?
There are at least seven existing and emerging mobile TV standards, excluding the cellular standards Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Services and Broadcast/Multicast Services.
DVB-H builds on its backward-compatibility with DVB-T, which allows DVB-H transmission on existing DVB-T channels. Significant additions to DVB-H are the 4k FET mode, in-depth interleaving for 2k and 4k OFDM, another forward error correction layer for multiprotocol encapsulated data (MPE-FEC) and time-slicing to save power.
Michael Flath, Senior Staff Engineer at Infineon Technologies AG, discusses in this technical article the challenges and implications of designing a DVB-H receiver from a system level point of view, with emphasis on the RF front-end.
