Media processing architecture scales from MP3 to HD video

Keywords:media processing architecture? parallel media processing? MP3 HD video architecture?

Since many audio and video coding standards exist, interoperability requires the underlying media architecture to be programmable. Programmability allows device manufacturers to further differentiate their products, use the SoC in different ways, reduce the risk of silicon respins and lengthen the product's market life.

For SoC designers, it's a big benefit that their underlying media processing architecture stays the same. If not, redesigns are required to address each design point in this wide range of applications, resulting in higher SoC design costs and longer time-to-market.

In this article, Marco Jacobs, ARC International's Director of Multimedia Solutions for Europe and Asia, discusses a media processing architecture that scales from MP3 to HD video.
