Freescale Semiconductor has introduced its latest range of RF products with low-power wireless connectivity. The MC33696 PLL-tuned UHF transceiver and MC33596 low-voltage receiver are access and remote control devices designed to help developers streamline existing RF solutions and add the convenience of wireless control to their products.

The MC33696 and MC33596 can be used for remote keyless entry, garage door control, RFID products, alarm monitoring, wireless alarm and security systems, home automation and automatic meter reading. Freescale offers a complimentary reference design that enables developers to evaluate and demonstrate low-power wireless connectivity with these devices in various applications.

The addition of a context switching feature enables the MC33696 and MC33596 devices to be used for RKE, tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) and passive entry receivers in the car body. The devices can be used across a wide voltage range of 2.1-5.5V and feature frequencies of 304-, 315-, 426-, 434-, 868- and 915MHz ISM bands.

Both chips has up to -108dBm receive sensitivity and include digital/analog received signal strength indicator (RSSI), an automatic wake-up function (strobe oscillator), an embedded data processor with programmable word recognition and image canceling mixer. Moreover, the chips offer 380kHz IF filter bandwidth, fast wake-up time and 9.2mA in receive (Rx) mode.

Moreover, the MC33696 transceiver offers OOK and FSK (software selectable) for modulation. The chip is RF transmitter programmable in four steps from -19dBm to 7dBm and has an RF transmitter data rate of up to 20Kbps.

The MC33696 and MC33596 devices are available now in production quantities. Pricing for the MC33696 transceiver in10,000-piece quantities is $1.96. Meanwhile, the MC33596 receiver sells at $1.82in 10,000-piece quantities.
