Epson Toyocom Corp. claims to have released the smallest SAW resonator, the NS-21R model designed for use as reference clock in communications applications such as short-range wireless equipment.

With the development of unique quartz cutting angles that reduce the crystal impedance (CI) value, the NS-21R achieves a small form factor of just 2.5-by-2-by-0.86mm, one-third the size of previous products and claimed to be the smallest in the industry today.

This reduction in size will contribute to higher density for small radio devices such as remote keyless entry systems installed in passenger vehicles, resulting in improved design freedom and smaller devices with higher performance, said the company.

The device features a nominal frequency range of 300-500MHz and a frequency tolerance of 50 x 10-6, 100 x 10-6 and 150 x 10-6.

Using proprietary technology from Epson Toyocom, the NS-21R SAW resonator achieves high temperature characteristics. NS-21R offers a turnover temperature of 20C 20C. The operating temperature range of the device is from -40C to 85C.

Other features include parabolic coefficient of (-0.016 0.004) x 10-6/C? and motional resistance of 20 max.

Samples will begin shipping this month.
