Japanese electronic giant Hitachi Ltd and U.S. database expert Oracle Corp. have joined forces to fight against piracy in China, according to reports. The Digitimes newspaper said the cooperation deal covers the sale of wireless tags to track the movement of goods in the market.

The Hitachi chip, worth $1.3 each, can store basic data such as a product's origin and manufacturer. Such information could aid authorities involved in the authentication of goods.

The two companies hope to initially deploy the anti-piracy tags on tickets for big events such as the Olympic Games, which Beijing will host next summer, and the World Expo, which will be held in Shanghai in 2010.

China has been dogged by piracy complaints from its global trade partners.
