Signal analyzers offer high accuracy measurement

MS2690A/MS2691A signal analyzer from Anritsu

Anritsu Corp. unrolls two new models of its MS2690A (50Hz to 6GHz)/MS2691A (50Hz to 13.5GHz) signal analyzer that targeted at various wireless communications systems, such as mobile WiMAX, W-CDMA and next-generation 4G mobile terminals.

The new models offer an average noise level of -155dBm/Hz (at 2GHz) and a total level accuracy of 0.5dB (at 50Hz to 6GHz). These analyzers have built-in FFT supporting measurement up to the 31.25MHz band, as well as a digitizer function for capturing RF signal waveforms without dropout.

Both models offer fast and accurate measurement at frequencies above 3GHz, making them suitable for both R&D of complex next-generation wireless communications systems, as well as efficient performance testing of high-performance devices and base stations.

Moreover, Anritsu has developed an optional vector signal generator for the MS2690A/MS2691A, supporting output of RF modulation band signals up to 120MHz. It covers frequencies up to 6GHz and permitting configuration of a space-saving test environment for performing signal analysis at the signal output timing required for device Tx and BS manufacturing tests.

Advanced architecture
The new devices offer a dynamic range with an average noise level of -155dBm/Hz (at 2GHz) and a third-order intercept of 22dBm (at 2GHz). Hence, no jigs such as filters or amplifiers are required for performing 3GPP-compliant Category-B spurious measurements of 3G mobile terminals, permitting easy configuration of low-cost Category-B test environments without the need for troublesome calibration.

The devices also feature superior total level accuracy (true value and deviation) up to 6GHz. The total level accuracy is 0.5dB across the frequency range of 50Hz to 6GHz, supporting high-accuracy measurement of Tx power of devices for mobile WiMAX, WLAN and next-generation wireless communications systems operating at frequencies of 3GHz or more.

The built-in vector signal analysis function enables the devices achieve high-speed measurement of frequency bandwidths up to 31.25MHz, permitting averaging of modulation signals and random noise in microseconds instead of the several seconds required by earlier sweeping spectrum analyzers. Moreover, installing the MX269010A Mobile WiMAX Measurement Software and MX269030A W-CDMA BS Measurement Software options supports modulation analysis at high speeds about 20 times faster than earlier analyzers.

With built-in digitizer functions, the analyzers capture RF signals up to the 31.25MHz band with high accuracy by minimizing signal degradation in the RF signal path and the digital data can be used by analysis tools like Matlab without prior calibration.
