Nokia files another counter suit vs. Qualcomm

Finnish handset maker Nokia announced June 11 it has filed another patent counter suit against rival Qualcomm Inc. before the Eastern District of Texas Court, adding further to the latter's legal entanglements after losing in its long-drawn-out war with archrival Broadcom Corp.
Nokia's filing is in relation to Qualcomm's alleged unauthorized use of six Nokia implementation in its MediaFlo and BREW businesses. Qualcomm had previously sought injunctions against Nokia and the latter is now seeking damages and injunctive relief.
"Nokia has a strong history of innovation in IP broadcast TV and mobile download environments predating Qualcomm's activities," said Tero Ojanpera, chief technology officer at Nokia. "This is another example where Qualcomm has effectively copied Nokia's innovations. We believe that, for MediaFLO to evolve and for BREW to remain viable, Qualcomm needs access to these and many other patented Nokia inventions."
Nokia's counter suits are part of its response to the Qualcomm lawsuit filed before the same court on April 2.
