The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted O2Micro Intl Ltd rights to 19 patent claims for its DC/DC converter power management architecture.

The power management and security components and systems supplier said in a press release that the claims were issued under U.S. Patent No. 7,196,499.

The patented circuitry monitors the current of a DC/DC converter, voltage information that can be fed back for adjustments at power input to increase efficiency. It is ideal for use in power supplies for portable electronic devices such as laptops.

"In addition to increasing efficiency and reducing pin count, this invention enables a smaller and more cost effective DC/DC converter design," commented O2Micro VP Laszlo Lipcsei.

The newly granted patent adds to O2Microls already extensive intellectual property portfolio with 7,254 patent claims granted. Over 9,000 more are pending.
