Use negative-swing systems for pop-free audio
Keywords:negative-swing analog switches? audio pop noise? AC-coupling capacitor?
Designers are starting to use low-power, negative-swing-capable audio amplifiers to achieve higher-quality audio performance than was possible with traditional single-ended amplifiers. These negative-swing-capable switches allow audio designers to use 0V-biased audio amplifiers to directly drive multiple speakers. In conjunction with a negative-swing-capable analog switch, this allows audio-source sharing between multiple speakers as well as multiplexing of multiple audio sources to a single speaker. They are attractive as end-users migrate to multifunctional "phone-plus-MP3 player" combination units.
Travis Williams, senior applications engineer at Fairchild Semiconductor, discusses more of negative-swing systems for pop-free audio in this technical article.
