Mobile WiMAX systems enhance network efficiency

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd releases the latest additions to its range of mobile WiMAX equipment. Universal Radio Access Station (U-RAS) Hub System (HS) is a solution for in-building areas, where the efficiency of network coverage and capacity for expansion are essential. The Universal Radio Access Station Convergence System (U-RAS CS) is a true convergence system equipped with Access Service Network Gateway (ASN GW) and legacy wireline subscriber interface.

U-RAS HS offers easier migration and expansion of subscribers with distributed RF units, and is said to be the perfect solution for large buildings, campuses and enterprise networks that support multiple antennas to minimize building penetration loss. It also helps service carriers install or expand mobile WiMAX coverage more easily and cost-effectively.

U-RAS CS incorporates ASN GW in its single system to maximize the efficiency of network installation and maintenance, as this means that the U-RAS CS does not require any additional ASN GW to expand the network. U-RAS CS can also seamlessly communicate with broadband or legacy PSTN networks.

Both devices support the IEEE 802.16e standard and feature OFDMA RF multiple acess scheme and TDD duplex mode.

U-RAS HS offers three carriers/RAS with omni sectors each. It supports frequencies for 2.3G, 2.5G and 3.5G applications. It also supports a channel bandwidth of 8.75MHz/10MHz and features FE, GE (optional E1/T1) network I/F. It has a Tx Power of 10W. The device measures 176-by-435-by-395mm (PU)

U-RAS CS features one carrier with three sectors (CU)/Omni (ODU). It supports frequencies for 3.5G and channel bandwidths of 8.75MHz/10MHz. Featuring a Tx Power of 5W, the U-RAS CS has a GE network I/F.
