AD9912

Designed for test and measurement equipment, wireless base stations and secure communications devices, Analog Devices Inc.'s AD9912 direct digital synthesizer (DDS) provides an exceptional spurious-free dynamic range (ADIo comes of age" target=_blank>SFDR) performance with output signals reaching up to 400MHz while consuming less than 1,000mW.

This level of performance was achieved using ADI's proprietary "spur-reduction" channels to knock down the two largest harmonic spurs by up to 10dB. This eases design efforts and enables engineers to spend less time in frequency planning, especially in applications such as military receivers where every last dB is vital to maintain critical system functions. The spur-reduction capability expands the benefits of DDS into designs where previous wideband SFDR performance was a limiting factor.

AD9912 is a 1GSPS DDS device featuring an integrated 14bit DAC and 3.6?H tuning resolution on outputs up to 400MHz. AD9912 also features a differential high-speed transceiver logic comparator for clock generation. With a flexible system clock input, AD9912 will also accept either a crystal or external clock. An on-chip low-noise PLL reference clock multiplier allows reference clocks as low as 25MHz.

Unlike previous DDS products from ADI, the AD9912 has auxiliary DDS channels that can be programmed to reduce the magnitude of problematic harmonic spurs in its output spectrum.

AD9912 complements ADI's AD9910 and AD9858 devices, providing designers with a variety of DDS function-set options at a 1GSPS sampling frequency.

AD9912 is sampling now and will be available in full production quantities in July. AD9912 costs $37.25 each in 1,000-unit quantities and is available in 64-lead LFCSP package.
