Germany-based Dialog Semiconductor GmbH has contracted Indian firm KPIT Cummins Infosystems Ltd as an offshore development center to boost its R&D activities.

With the announcement, both companies continue their cooperation that was launched two years ago. The cooperation between the companies developed from a simple layout resource to a partner capable of handling entire digital and analog design blocks in a relatively independent way.

The R&D efforts, in which the KPIT Cummins will participate, include audio and power management devices as well as display driver circuits for mobile phones and other portable consumer electronics applications.

"This contract does absolutely not go at the expense of other European activities", explained Dialog engineering VP Gary Duncan. "We have a significant number of vacancies in Europe for engineering and research, and we still are recruiting. The Offshore Development Center provides additional resources, working with our European teams." The R&D center the company launched last March in Edinburgh is operational and not affected by the move, he asserted.
