TI rolls out low-jitter network clock generator

Texas Instruments Inc. has developed a femtosecond-performance clock generator especially targeted for networking designs.

The low-phase-noise CDCE421 provides a jitter performance of 380fs rms at 10kHz to 20MHz. The device incorporates crystal oscillator (XO) circuitry with a fully integrated frequency synthesizer, supporting an output frequency range from 10.9-766.7MHz and from 875.2-1,175MHz. This eases design for customers designing Ethernet, fiber channel, PCIe and serial ATA products.

The CDCE421 is available in die form to fit in a 5-by-7mm XO package or a 24-pin QFN package, giving customers flexibility to fit their designs. The clock device integrates both on-chip EEPROM and XO circuitry for increased programmability, allowing the customer to implement a single device for various frequencies.

All device settings are programmable through a TI proprietary serial interface for programming after manufacturing. The device operates in a single 3.3V supply environment and is characterized for operation in an industrial temperature range of -40C to 85C.

The product is now available, with pricing at $7 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
