Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX15020 high-voltage DC/DC converter with an integrated high-side switch capable of delivering up to 2A of output current, while operating with switching frequencies up to 500kHz. The high-switching frequency, along with the integrated high-side 0.18 switch reduces the number and size of external components required by the total solution, which translates into board space and system cost savings.

Operating over a wide 7.5-40V input-voltage range, MAX15020 is suitable for automotive, industrial and printer applications. MAX15020 uses a feed-forward voltage-mode architecture to provide good noise immunity in high-voltage switching environments and it allows external compensation for increased design flexibility, said Maxim.

This converter offers internal switching frequencies of 300kHz and 500kHz, or it can be synchronized to an external clock ranging from 100kHz to 500kHz. To maximize flexibility, MAX15020 allows designers to set the output voltage using two external resistors. An external reference input also provides the capability of dynamically adjusting the output voltage from 0.5V to 36V.

MAX15020 provides protection features including configurable under-voltage lockout (UVLO), soft-start, thermal shutdown, cycle-by-cycle current limit and a hiccup-mode for output short-circuit protection. To save power during non-operation, the device offers a shutdown mode that reduces current consumption down to 6?A.

MAX15020 is fully specified over the -40C to 125C automotive temperature range and is available in a thermally enhanced, 5-by-5mm, 20-pin TQFN package.

Pricing starts at $1.47 for 1000-unit pieces.
