Intersil Corp. has introduced the latest addition to its family of line drivers that feature low power, a small footprint and good linearity. Intersil claims the ISL1539 is the first monolithic, dual-port DSL line driver for 100Mbps VDSL2 central office (CO) applications. The ISL1539 uses proprietary circuitry to achieve low distortion, high capacitance drive and less than 910mW/port total power consumption while delivering 20.5dBm output power in 5-band VDSL2 applications. This driver uses the company's new high-speed bipolar process technology to extend the performance of ADSL2, ADSL2+ and VDSL2 bandwidth high-voltage line drivers.

ISL1539 is a performance extension of Intersil's ADSL2+ line drivers, which means the driver supports full ADSL2+ fall back capability to drive long loop lengths at a lower data rate as well as shorter loops at the full 100Mbps rates.

The design of the ISL1539, a current mode feedback DSL driver, has been optimized for high slew rate and low distortion in the 25kHz to17 MHz frequency bands. The ability of the driver to operate from power supplies up to 30V enables the use of transformer turns ratios that provide the highest receiver SNR for the central office VDSL2 chipsets. This eases the receiver specification requirements on the VDSL2 analog front-ends and can also increase longer reach data rates, said Intersil.

Targeting high port count VDSL2 line cards aimed at IPTV and video on-demand service applications, the dual-port drivers are packaged in a 4-by-5mm QFN package allowing the smallest footprint for VDSL2 applications, according to the company. Moreover, the drivers deliver low bias current, ease of use for high-density PCB layout and a reduced number of external components.

The ISL1539 is available now in both 24-lead QFN and 24-lead HTSSOP packages and is priced from $3.73 to $3.83 each in quantities of 1,000.
