Microsoft seals 3-way PC sales pact

Microsoft Corp. has signed a pact with chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Mumbai-based PC maker Zenith Computers Ltd to make and sell PCs in India, Reuters said in a report.

Under the agreement, retail outlets in Bangalore and Pune will sell the $500 computers for a three-month trial period starting July. The number of outlets will be adjusted according to market response.

Microsoft India chairman Ravi Venkatesan was quoted as saying that the project is expected to post gains in the long term.

The software giant said it would tap its online portal,, to provide educational content for students. It also plans to launch a job search portal, through collaboration with government and industry partners, to cater to the hundreds of thousands of engineering graduates the emerging economy churns out each year.
